Work experience

Dr. Luciano Ciravegna is an Italian citizen, currently resident in London, where he is a tenured Assistant Professor in Strategy and International Business at the Royal Holloway School of Management, University of London, and a Research Fellow at the Development Studies Institute at the London School of Economics.

His academic career and international experience began at the age of 17 when he was admitted to the United World College, a scholarship-only international school. He then pursued his interests in economics and politics by achieving a BSc in Economic History at the London School of Economics and publishing his undergraduate dissertation in Italian as his first book by him.

After the BSc, he became a fellow of St Antony's College at the University of Oxford, where he graduated from a two-year research master's program, the MPhil Latin American economics and politics. During the MPhil he worked in Argentina in the Italian Embassy and in several think tanks and research institutions, gathering material for his second book 'The Argentinean Crisis', published in English and Spanish.

I have then pursued a Ph.D. in the Development Studies Institute at the London School of Economics, supported by scholarships from INCAE, the Centro Studi D'Agliano, the London School of Economics, and the Italian Council for Social Sciences. His Ph.D. thesis was on the Costa Rican ICT cluster and development policy and was inspired by the consulting work carried out with Prof. Arturo Condo at INCAE-CLACDS, an institution that subsequently provided the essential financial and infrastructural support to complete the doctoral research.

During the Ph.D. Dr. Ciravegna worked as a consultant on competitiveness, clusters, and political risk in Guatemala and Costa Rica for INCAE-CLACDS, in London for the political risk consulting firm Executive Analysis, in Vienna for UNIDO, and in Italy for the Province of Turin.

His teaching experience includes courses for undergraduate, graduate, MBA and executives in international business, corporate strategy, competitive strategy, competitiveness and development, and business risk thought at the following institutions: INCAE Business School, The London School of Economics, Royal Holloway College, ESCP, Los Andes Business School, University of Hong Kong. He has published in the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Development Studies, the International Journal of Innovation Management, and has written 3 books.
