Corruption and COVID-19: opacity is a health risk

Recently the organization Transparency International published the update of its global indicator on the state of corruption in the world (ICP); an index that classifies 180 countries and territories according to the perception of experts and businessmen, and that ranges from 0 to 100 points, where 0 is high corruption and 100 is low corruption. This year the countries with the highest scores are Denmark, New Zealand, Finland, Singapore, Sweden and Switzerland; while the countries with the highest levels of corruption are Venezuela, Yemen, Syria, Somalia and South Sudan.

The slope of January in 2021

The capacity and scope of exponential technologies or the fourth industrial revolution have been present in initiatives, products and trends around the world to face the pandemic and its impacts. The variants of technological response to COVID-19 have been many and diverse.

National working groups
For the manufacture of personal protective equipment and medical devices
The purpose of this project is to support working groups in each of the Central American countries in the coordination of national efforts for the local manufacture of PPE for health professionals, such as masks, visors, gowns, gloves, caps. , and aerobox boxes, as well as ventilators for patients who will require hospitalization. These kits would be produced in faithful compliance with the protocols and standards of the national health authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The pandemic and the disruption of the 2030 Agenda
The COVID-19 pandemic crisis continues to advance, at the time of writing this article, more than 2 million infected, more than 140 thousand deaths, and presence in 185 countries according to what was reported by the John Hopkins University. The epicenter of the crisis has moved from Wuhan in China, to Northern Italy and today to New York in the United States. In Latin America the progress and reporting of COVID-19 is slow but constant, although still no country in the region reaches the levels of European countries or the United States.

Two strategic pillars for countries during and after the pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic crisis continues to advance, as of today, April 8, there are 1,447,466 confirmed infected, 83,471 deaths, and presence in 184 countries according to what was reported by John Hopkins University. The epicenter of the crisis has moved from Wuhan in China, to Northern Italy and today to New York in the United States, where only yesterday they had 1,700 deaths and already accumulate 5,489.

The Pandemic Data-Knowledge Gaps
Due to the high level of contagion that Covid-19 has, the World Health Organization has requested that social distancing be applied; that is, keep at least 1 meter distance between you and other people, particularly those who cough, sneeze and have a fever. In order for everyone in Latin America to follow the instructions of the World Health Organization, the gaps in knowledge must be considered, generating information in formats that everyone can understand.

Management responses in times of COVID-19
In the COVID-19 pandemic, we are facing the worst crisis of our generation. This crisis poses enormous challenges for the management and survival of our companies. So we must take urgent action to protect our employees and their families as a top priority. And, at the same time, implement measures that help us "navigate this storm" and survive until a phase of economic reactivation hopefully prompt and accelerated.
