Chapter VI: Contributing Value from Diversity

Our senior researcher and Director of IPS Projects at CLACDS, Jaime García, offers this webinar on how the COVID-19 crisis goes beyond the health aspect and affects other areas of society, such as slowing economic growth, altering the international order , increases inequality in education, decreases the provision of public goods, creates conditions for social violence, magnifies domestic violence, accentuates inequalities, among other effects. But in addition, many of these affectations have had a gender bias, affecting women to a greater extent.

In this sense, when proposing strategies and plans to go out into the post-COVID-19 world, the opportunity must be seized to make changes that make the countries of the region stronger and more resilient, focusing on aspects related to productivity and inclusion of women These two aspects should be strategic pillars in any recovery plan in the short and medium term. The first because productivity is the generator of wealth, economic growth and consequently employment; and the second, the inclusion of women, because by making it easier for all people to prosper and reach their full potential, it is easier and faster to generate progress in the countries in a sustainable way. In this webinar we will see the analysis of the damages, the challenges, but also the opportunities to guide this reconstruction with equity.

How to support the mission of CELIS?

According to the World Economic Forum report, there are 257 years left to close the economic gap between men and women, five years more than in 2018. The role of education in reducing the gap is fundamental, so we invite you to donate to our scholarship fund and provide women the opportunity to prepare for their advancement to leadership positions.
