El Mr. Steve Aronson, founder of the Britt NV Group made a significant donation to INCAE Business School for the development of a Research Chair, which is known in other countries as a "Endowed Chair or ProfessorshipThese chairs usually assign resources to a professor to do research on a specific topic. In particular, Mr. Aronson has indicated that his funds are dedicated to the study of the business strategies of agro-industrial companies in developing economies, particularly those of Tropical Latin America, from southern Mexico to central Peru / Brazil. The fundamental objective is to help many companies in this sector to scale from basic agriculture to create more and more added value. Something similar to what the Mr. Aronson and his people have achieved with Grupo Britt NV

Stephen R. Brenes, Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, was appointed since 2010 as the full professor and head of the Chair. It also has the support of teachers Felipe Perez, Niels Ketelhohn, Bernard Killian, Carlos Quintanilla placeholder image, among other members of the Faculty, of the researcher Caleb A. Pichardo, and, eventually, of students of the Master's Programs.

General Purpose

This chair seeks that companies related to agribusiness can develop options that allow them to produce greater wealth and that it reaches many agricultural producers and entrepreneurs.

It is expected in the medium and long term that there will be new companies and others that will become producers, distributors and / or exporters of "commodities”, To value-added companies for local and international markets, develop their own brands, generate better paid jobs, provide economic profit for entrepreneurs and development for the tropical agriculture sector in the regions of influence.

    In this way, companies will be able to appropriate a greater part of the value created after the Portón de la Finca.

    It is sought then, through study and research, to know and transmit to master's students, businessmen and executives, academics and the general public:

    • Tools to identify the opportunities offered by the tropical agriculture sector as a source of value-added businesses for the generation of wealth, the strengthening of entrepreneurship after the Portón de la Finca and the integral development of our communities.
    • Instruments and actions that impact companies in the tropical agriculture sector to add value, allowing the development of the identified opportunities.

    This implies discovering and learning the typologies that describe successful companies, as well as the knowledge acquired through experience in management issues such as: business strategy, added value, production and transformation processes, supply and value chains , marketing and elements of the distribution channels and leadership, and organization.
