About Danilo Arevalo:

Danilo Arévalo is a gynecologist and oncologist in private practice in San Salvador, El Salvador. The project consists of providing low-cost gynecological cancer surgeries to the low-income population of El Salvador through the use of new technologies and a medical care scheme with social solidarity.

Cost reduction is based on three fundamental aspects:

1. The hospital center:

One of the most important stakeholders and one of the key pieces, since it must have a basic infrastructure to be able to develop this project, it must also have the means to prevent or reduce a possible complication. That is why several conversations began with various hospital centers, finding an echo in the Specialty Surgery Center (CECIE), where the project was adapted to its corporate responsibility plan.

2. Medical staff:

The second important actor is the medical staff, so a group of surgeons was discussed, including Dr. Carla Callejas, Dr. Danilo Arévalo León, Dr. Cesia Parada, and a group of anesthesiologists, Dr. Reyes Perdomo, Dr. Edwin Valle, the protocol was presented to a pathologist (Dr. Geovani Molina) who agreed to reduce costs to help women who go through such a terrible time, in addition, the fact was raised that if the volume of surgery was sufficient, this could make a more attractive wage bet compared to that obtained in a public institution.

3. The application of technology.

Although minimally invasive surgery has been applied for more than 20 years in gynecology, it is relatively new in countries with low development such as El Salvador, which is why its application is essential since it substantially reduces costs through less hospitalization of patients and earlier discharge, less use of analgesics and antibiotics and faster return to daily activities, this added to the ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) protocol are essential for accelerated recovery and reduction of surgical risks , providing superior quality to a public service center.
