What is INCAE's CCM?

We invite you to learn more about the Management Consulting Project (MCP) and how to apply for a project in your department.

1. What is the Management Consulting Project (MCP)?

The MCP is a consultancy in which a group of students, as a requirement for their graduation (last module), carry out a professional practice in an organization developing a project that the company itself requests.

2. What advantages does it have for companies and for INCAE to carry out a CCM?

Companies will be able to implement or develop a project that perhaps for different reasons has not been possible up to now.
There are some "conditions" to carry out these consultancies; such as, having a "stone in the shoe"; that is, a pending project of great urgency or importance and for this reason the client is willing to invest for the development of the MCP, knowing that his payback will be in the short term.

For INCAE, it is extremely important that through these consultancies we get closer to new clients and a follow-up for clients with whom we have previously carried out projects. In addition, a MCP opens the door for many Inca members to be placed in different companies in the region.

3. What is the process like for the protagonists (student group and client)?

  1. Customers are sent the invitation to participate in the program. Interested clients will present the project to be developed, which must be approved prior to being published on our intranet for students to select. The client must be clear that he bears the costs of said consultancy (lodging, food and transportation, mostly).
  2. The students are formed in groups of 5 members with different characteristics (gender, nationality and profession) and once the projects are published, each group decides which of them to apply to and the MCP office will send their group CVs to the corresponding clients.

Clients conduct interviews with the groups to finally decide who to select.

Important: students can also propose their project as long as it meets the requirements of both the group and the client.

4. Did you know that you can request MCPs for your department internally?

In INCAE, around seven CCMs have been carried out internally in recent years.

5. The success of the CCMs

The success of CCMs is achieved because:

  1. The projects allow significant improvements to the proposing companies: especially if they impact the level of innovation and profitability.
  2. The projects have a social impact: a percentage of MCP projects are carried out in foundations and NGOs co-financed by the Strachan Chair. For these organizations it is a great opportunity to have a group of consultants who can provide solutions to their challenges.
  3. The projects are opportunities to receive job offers: this demonstrates the quality and training of students ready to return to work with more and better knowledge.
