Message to the Nation

INCAE, as part of its mission to contribute to the development of Central America, has monitored the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic and its impact on the nations of the region from the beginning. It has also supported regional initiatives to help in the fight against the spread of the virus, with the purpose of mitigating its humanitarian impact.

Each nation has taken measures according to its own circumstances, but they have in common that their societies are working together in the face of the advance of the pandemic. In Nicaragua, the spread of the virus is just beginning, so the nation still has time to take the necessary measures. Only in this way can we avoid a human catastrophe of great proportions.

We must prioritize the strengthening of the capacity and security of the national health system and its professionals, equip it with essential equipment and instruments to work during the pandemic, protect the most vulnerable, ensure the supply of key inputs to meet the basic needs of the population. , as well as contributing to reducing the global impact of COVID-19 on the economy, employment and poverty.

Based on the seriousness of the situation and the magnitude of what the pandemic and its repercussions may mean for Nicaragua, INCAE makes the following call:

We ask the Government and all sectors of society, the Church and the communities of the country, to work together and in a coordinated manner in preparation to face this deadly virus. At this time, you have to think about saving lives and putting aside differences of any kind.

We ask international organizations to consider freeing up resources already committed to the country to dedicate them to the priorities of the pandemic, and to increase Nicaragua's access to greater resources as the pandemic demands, for humanitarian and socioeconomic reasons.

At INCAE we view this situation as the crisis of our generation. It is necessary to act immediately, urgently and all united. Only in this way can we flatten the spread curve of contagion.

It is the moment of solidarity, to unite to work to minimize the impacts that as a society we are going to suffer.

INCAE is in a position to support and contribute, in all its capacity, to Nicaragua.

Sincerely,

Roberto Artavia Enrique Bolaños Abaunza
