A home under a bridge: the reality of informal housing in Guatemala

June 19, 2018. Guatemala ranks first in the Central American region with the highest demand for housing and, at the same time, with the highest deficit, according to a study by the Central American Institute of Business Administration (INCAE). Obtaining a home of your own in countries like Guatemala is a difficult goal to achieve. Only in the department of the capital there are more than 300 informal settlements according to the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction CONRED, and most of these houses have been built in areas considered risky and high-risk.
